Charley M. Van Metre

Memorial services for Charley M. Van Metre of Conroe will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church of Conroe, with Rev. Bill Taylor officiating. Mr. Van Metre was born May 4, 1922 in Copeland, Kan. and passed away April 10, 2004 in Shenandoah, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Conroe, Conroe Noon Lions Club, Past Lion of the Year, was due to receive "The Melvin Jones Fellow Award" on April 14, 2004, was in charge of Lions Eye Glass Program, and attended the Beacon Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church. He attended Prayer Breakfast Study each Tuesday Morning. He was an avid dancer and former Professional Square Dance Caller. He retired, from Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Van Metre and brother, Bill Van Metre. Mr. Van Metre is survived by his wife, Emily Van Metre of Conroe, sons and daughters-in-law, Harry Lawrence Van Metre and Molly of Spring, Texas, Charles Holman Van Metre and Carol of Lake Jackson, Texas; stepsons and wives, Stephen Harper and Jennifer of The Woodlands, Texas and Dale Harper and Dianne of Montgomery, Texas; sisters, Margaret Harper of Denver, Colo., Dazi Sparkman of San Antonio, Texas and Evelyn Larsen of Minnesota; brothers, Marion Van Metre and wife Arvilla of Dacona, Colo. and Bobby Van Metre of Colorado; grandchildren, Daniel Van Metre, Rachel Post, Craig Van Metre and Ryan Van Metre; step-grandchildren, Michael Harper, Elizabeth Harper, Ashley Harper and Lauren Schultz. The family wishes, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Conroe Noon Lions Club.
