Byron William VanMeter

 

Mr. Byron William "Barney" VanMeter, 81, of Cross Lanes passed away October 5, 2011 at Valley Center.

 

Barney was retired from Union Carbide; a Marine Corps veteran; and formerly in the 130th West Virginia Air National Guard. He was a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge #58 in St. Albans; Scottish Rite Bodies; Beni Kedem Shriners; Highlanders; and the Royal Order of Jesters. He attended Cross Lanes United Methodist Church.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Dora VanMeter, and sisters, Esther and Dorothy.

 

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Dolores VanMeter; children, Byron J. VanMeter of Charleston and Lea Ann Bowen and husband, Douglas, of Pawleys Island, S.C.; brother, John VanMeter of Indiana; sisters, Judy Thomas of Dawes and Mary Kraft of Raleigh, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Annie VanMeter, Melody VanMeter and Tory Litton.

 

The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the staff at Valley Center and Kanawha Hospice. We would also like to thank all of our friends that have been faithful during this time.

 

At Barney's request, there will be no service and he will be cremated.
