Charles "Chiz" VanMeter

Of Medords, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2006 at the age of 95. Born in Gloucester City, NJ, in 1910, Chiz was a long-time resident of Stone Harbor from 1944 and later moved to Cape May Court House. He was a trumpet player in several orchestras and the leader of his own band playing hundreds of venues in Southern NJ from the 30's through the early 60's.

Charles was pre-deceased by his wife, Kate, to whom he was married for 71 years; he is survived by his four children, Barbara Taylor of Newtown Square PA, Norman VanMeter of Woodbine, NJ, Jean VanMeter of Salem, NJ, and Robert VanMeter of Medford. He was known as 'Pop Pop' to his 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great granchildren.

Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, from 9-10AM at the MATHIS FUNERAL HOME, 58 N. Main St., Medford, NJ 08055. Funeral services will follow at 10 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Harleigh Cemetery, Camden, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the MATHIS FUNERAL HOME, 58 N. Main St., Medford, NJ (609) 654-2439.
