Darrel Gene Van Meter

Graveside services for Darrel Gene Van Meter, formerly of Riverside, were May 2 at the Imperial Memorial Gardens in Pueblo, Colo. He died April 29 of a heart attack at his home in Pueblo. He was 56.

George McCarthy Funeral Home in Pueblo handled the arrangements.

Mr. Van Meter, a native of Crowley, Colo., lived in Riverside for 25 years before moving to Pueblo two years ago. He was a sales manager for Elixir Industries in Gardena for 16 years and for Alumax Inc. in Riverside for 11 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman second class aboard the U.S.S. Impervious from 1958 until he was discharged in 1961.

Mr. Van Meter earned a certificate in business management from Riverside City College in 1973.

He enjoyed sports and coached a number of junior football, basketball, and Little League teams in the Riverside area.

Mr. Van Meter is survived by his wife, Jackie; a daughter, Jessie of Pueblo; two sons, Mark of Riverside and Joshua of Pueblo; two grandchildren; his mother, Dorothy Van Meter of Pueblo; and three brothers, Ray of El Dorado, Merale of Ft. Morgan, Colo., and Basil Jr. of Pueblo.
