Frank L. VanMeter
KILGORE - Services for Frank L. VanMeter, 83, of Kilgore, will be 10 a.m.,
Monday, July 2, 2007, at Liberty City First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce
Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. VanMeter
passed away Friday, June 29, 2007, in Tyler.
Mr. VanMeter was born August 15, 1923, in Smackover, Arkansas, to Frank and
Bertha Mae VanMeter, deceased. He was a graduate of Sabine High School. After
graduation Mr. VanMeter was drafted into the United States Marine Corps, where
he served in World War II and was a survivor of the Palalu Battle and the Korean
War.
Mr. VanMeter was retired from Gregg County Precinct 3. He was a member of the
Liberty City First Baptist Church. Mr. VanMeter will be remembered as a
hard-working, devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-
grandfather. He leaves behind many loving family members and friends.
Mr. VanMeter was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Billie VanMeter, who
passed away in 2004; and two brothers, Gene VanMeter and Charlie VanMeter.
Mr. VanMeter is survived by five children and their spouses, Judith and Roger
Naomi of Firestone, Colo., Charlotte Gill of Henderson, Charles and Jan VanMeter
of Longview, Debbie and Bob Smith of Henderson and Steve and Donna VanMeter of
Kilgore; one sister, Linda VanMeter of Lampasas, Texas; one brother and
sister-in-law, Joe T. and Lelia VanMeter of Kilgore; sister-in-law, Iva VanMeter
of Kilgore; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous
nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore this afternoon
from 4-6 p.m.
