Frank Van Metre

Funeral services for Frank Van Metre, 96 of Corpus Christi, TX, formerly of Green Cove Springs, will be held on Tuesday May 27, 2003 in the chapel of JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park with Rev. Pat Turner-Sharpton officiating. Frank was born November 3, 1906 in Glendale, KY, the son of L.W. Van Metre, Sr. and Maybelle Woodring Van Metre. He played professional baseball as a free lance player and was known to have struck out the formidable " Murderers Row" of the New York Yankees in one inning. He retired from NAS O&R Corpus Christi following many years of dedicated Civil Service. Frank was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Martha Van Metre who died in 1998. Surviving are his daughters Ariana Trower and Mabel McCluskey; his son Milton Van Metre; 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
