Gene Van Meter

OLD GLORY - Gene Van Meter, a retired Bell Helicopter employee, died Thursday in Haskell. He was 71.

Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Van Meter was born in Decatur and lived in Fort Worth for more than 30 years.

He lived in Old Glory for 10 years.

He worked for Bell Helicopter for 30 years as a Class A inspector before his retirement.

Mr. Van Meter was a Navy veteran of World War II.He was pastor at Christ Church in Rule.

Survivors: Wife, Alberta Van Meter of Old Glory; son, Samuel Lloyd Van Meter of Fort Worth; three daughters, Becky Doyle of Decatur, Debbie Morris of Waco and Johnnie Johnson of Fort Worth; three stepdaughters, Patricia Reddick of Seattle, Jean Baugh of Old Glory and Margaret Tanner of Rule; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
