James Omar Van Meter

James Omar Van Meter, 83, of Radcliff, formerly of Cecilia, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at North Hardin Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Hardin County, he was a member of Blue Ball Baptist Church and the Stephensburg Lodge #212 F & AM. He retired from General Electric in Louisville in 1981 after 28 years with the company. He was also a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in his death by his son, Bobby Gene Van Meter, and his parents Omar and Ida Cecil Van Meter.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mattie Pearl Stone; a brother, Rudy Van Meter of Louisville; and a sister, Betty Inman of Mount Washington.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Monday at Blue Ball Baptist Church in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Alex Brookhuis, the Rev. Arnold Moon and the Rev. Burnam McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ball Cemetery.

Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today and continues at 9 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. There will be a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. tonight.
