JoAnn J. Van Meter
JoAnn J. Van Meter, 73, of Albion, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at her
residence.
She was born July 25, 1931 to John J. Phelps and Edna (Cravens) Phelps in Homer,
Michigan.
On April 22, 1950 she married Robert D. Van Meter in Albion.
JoAnn was a resident of Calhoun County all of her life, she loved her garden and
flowers, she was an avid reader and was fond of all animals. She was formerly
employed at Provincial House and the Calhoun County Farm as a house-keeper.
She is survived by her husband, Robert D. Van Meter of Albion; three daughters,
Judy (Ken) Danhof of Muskegon, Susan (Boyd) Ray of Marshall and Brenda (Mike)
Freeman of Marshall; five grandchildren, Jason Ray, Jamie (Deani) Ray, Clinton
Weakley, Michael Danhof and Shannon Freeman; a great grandson, Alexander
Worthington; one brother, John (Pat) Phelps of Albion; three step-sisters,
Elnora Wilcox of Jackson, Maxine Shorter of Coldwater and Bonnie Johnson of
Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert D. Van Meter Jr. in 1986; two
brothers, William and Lloyd Phelps; and one sister, Bessie Draper.
A Graveside service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at
Riverside Cemetery in Albion with Rev. David Willerup officiating. Memorials can
be made to the Calhoun County Humane Society.
