Milo Chauncey Van Meter
Milo Chauncey Van Meter, 93, Inman, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Pleasant
View Nursing Home there.
He was born Aug. 9, 1907, in Thayer, the son of Emmitt and Lucy Houghton Van
Meter. He grew up in rural Neosho County and moved to Chanute in 1969.
He was a farmer and worked many years as yard manager at Sutcliffe. He was a
charter member of Parkview Holiness Church and instrumental in its construction.
He was the financial instigator for Independence Bible College, Independence, in
1952.
He married Bernice Van Meter and she preceded him in death. He married Wilma
Eppers in Altoona on Feb. 4, 1934, and she died in 1996.
He also was preceded by two sons who died in infancy; three brothers, George,
Ted and Joel, and one sister, Tillie.
He is survived by a son, Clayton of Wichita; a daughter, Sharon Ottem of
Hutchinson; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and nine
great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with his nephew, the Rev.
Dale Van Meter, officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.
Tuesday at Gibson-Koch-Friskel Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Independence Bible College, in care of the chapel.
