Robert Dewitt "Bob" VanMeter

Robert Dewitt "Bob" VanMeter, 88, of Shawnee, KS, passed away Friday, March 14, 2003. Bob was born July 14, 1914, in Freeman MO, and was the son of Jesse L. VanMeter and Mary Lucille Cummings VanMeter. The family lived in Freeman for many years before moving to Harrisonville, MO, in the 1930's. He moved to the South Kansas City area in 1955, where he owned a service station for over 30 years. He later resided with his son, Ronald VanMeter in Shawnee, KS, until shortly before his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Irene Benson VanMeter in 1996, and his son, James R. VanMeter in 1971. He is survived by his son, Ronald J. VanMeter of Shawnee, KS; daughter, Roberta K. Arenson, of Overland Park, KS; brother, Harold G. VanMeter of Redding, CA; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be Friday, March 21, at 2 p.m., at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, MO. (Arrangements: Kansas City Funeral Directors, 913-262-6310)
