Robert Franklin VanMeter

VANMETER Robert "Bob" Franklin VanMeter, age 71, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006 at his residence surrounded by his loving children after a courageous battle with cancer. Born January 19, 1935 in Urbana, Ohio. Graduate of Urbana High School class of 1952. Decorated veteran United States Marine Corp Korean conflict. Attended Wittenberg University and graduate of Bowling Green State University. Started his career in retail as a manufacturers representative with W.T. Grant Company, New York City. Relocated to Columbus, Ohio and continued his retail career as a buyer with Gold Circles stores and Federated department stores. Retired as President of VanMeter & Associates, manufacturers representatives. Served 27 years as Secretary on the Board of Trustees for Advocates for the Challenged. Bob will forever be remembered for the life lessons he taught, and his passion for golf. Preceded in death by parents Floyd VanMeter and Stella (VanMeter) Miller, and brother Edward VanMeter. Survived by his loving children, Vikki (Robert) Aldrich, Robert (Cheryl) VanMeter, and Todd VanMeter; adored grandchildren, Maegan, Matthew and Marissa VanMeter; nephews, David (Amy) VanMeter, Mark (Susan) VanMeter and Brett (Sandy) VanMeter; in addition to many special lifetime friends. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Taral Patel and staff of Mid-Ohio Oncology, Dr. D.W. Widman and staff at Mt. Carmel St. Ann's Cancer Clinic and Sandee Huteen with Mt. Carmel Hospice for her care and compassion during this difficult time. A celebration of Bob's life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006 at New Albany Links Golf Club, 7000 New Albany Links Drive, New Albany, Ohio (newalbanylinks.com), causal/golf attire, please. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Urbana High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, 500 Washington Avenue, Urbana, Ohio 43078 or Mount Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
