Samuel VanMeter

Samuel VanMeter, 71, died May 24, 2003 at home. Mr. VanMeter attended Kansas University and was one of the originators of Hallmark Contemporary Cards. Mr. VanMeter was an artist, sculptor, cartoonist and published in Playboy Magazine in the 60's. He retired from Meredith Corporation as an illustrator and page designer for Successful Farming Magazine. Mr. VanMeter's hobbies included cooking, bread baking, model building and reading. He was also a veteran of the Korean War and a former library board member in Ankeny.

He is survived by his wife, Regina Patrice VanMeter, three daughters, Maria (Steve) Faber, Carin (Jeff) Murphy and Anne (Dirk) Hans-VanMeter sister, Mimi Rinesmith four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Ankeny Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Kirkendall Public Library in Ankeny, 1210 NW Prairie Ridge Dr.
