Taylor Van Meter

OLDTOWN, MD, Taylor J. "Mike" Van Meter, 79, of Oldtown, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Memorial Hospital.

Born August 19, 1926 in Wiley Ford, W.Va., he was the son of the late Isaac T. and Elma (Grapes) Van Meter. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dolly Whorton and Stella Appel and two brothers, Bob Van Meter and Ray Van Meter.

Mr. Van Meter was a World War II veteran and he served in Germany under General Patton 503rd Military Police. He was a life member of the Clifford B. Sisler V.F.W. #9451 and the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Fort Cumberland Post #13 American Legion.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Lena (Mullenax) Van Meter; one daughter, Susan Simpson and husband Bill, Spring Gap; one son, M. Dale Van Meter and wife Barbara, Oldtown; two sisters, Myrtle and Betty; four grandchildren, Glen Simpson and wife Cassie, Falling Waters, W.Va., Debbie Howard and husband Pat, Laurel, Gene Davis and wife Michelle, Plano, TX, Eric Davis and wife Terri, New Mexico; seven great-grandchildren, Mike and Jacob Simpson, Matt and Drew Howard, Sonya Davis and Sean and Thomas Davis.

Mr. Van Meter donated his body to the Maryland Anatomy Board for Medical Science.

A memorial service will be held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Joseph DiNicola officiating.
