Vernon Fredrick Van Meter

Vernon Fredrick Van Meter, 85, of Battle Creek, died April 4, 2005 at home.

He was born July 10, 1919 to Harvey and Ida (Beilfuss) Van Meter in Albion.

He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.

Vernon worked for Kellogg's as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1980.

He married Margaret J. Shelters on October 17, 1942; she survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Sharon (Leonard) Camp of Battle Creek, Barbara (John) Andrews of Westmont, Illinois; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Carlton Van Meter and sister, Carolyn Peckham, both of Albion.

Vernon was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping and watching baseball.

Graveside services will take place 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2005 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Rev. Linda Stoddard officiating.

Memorial donations may go to Good Samaritan Hospice Care.

The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home.
