VIRGIL V. VAN METER 

VAN METER, VIRGIL V. SR. "CHIP," 78, of New Port Richey, died Wednesday (Jan. 8, 2003) at home. Born in Streator, Ill., he came here in 1984 from Joliet, Ill. He was a general laborer and an Army veteran of World War II. He was wounded twice in the Battle of the Bulge and a prisoner of war twice, escaping each time. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Martha R.; two sons, Virgil "Chip" V. Van Meter Jr., DeForest, Wis., and Kurt William, Dunnellon; a daughter, Barbara German, Dwight, Ill.; a brother, William, Beverly Hills; two sisters, Mildred Santerelli, Plainfield, Ill., and Betty Kittle, Rockdale, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
