Studied medicine in the office of Dr. Shrader at Iowa City.  At the outbreak of Civil War enlisted July 7, 1862 in the Iowa 18th Infantry - Company H.  Mustered August 6, 1863.  Wounded Jan. 8, 1863, Springfield, Missouri.  Died of wounds Jan. 14, 1863.  Buried National Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri - section 9, Grave 12.
